The diamond push up is performed by changes the hand positions of the traditional push up to make a diamond with the pointer fingers of both hands touching and the thumbs of both hands touching. The diamond push up will primarily target your triceps and pectoralis major.
To perform thediamond push ups properly:
- Start off with your knees and hands on the floor.
- Your hands should be inline with your chest.
- Your pointer fingers of both hands and your thumbs of both hands should be touching to form a diamond or triangle shape.
- Your arms should be straight to start.
- Your feet should be close together with straight legs.
- Squeeze your glutes and abs to keep your legs and back in a straight line.
- Your head should be inline with your body and it should stay in this position during the push up.
- Lower your body until your chest nearly touches the ground and pause before pushing yourself back up to the starting position.
- Remember to keep your core tight during the push up.
